Finding a good journal for your manuscript


The online tool JANE can help you find an appropriate journal for your manuscript. Or you can try sending it to Nature, Science, and PNAS, and then try JANE.

Paying the journal


If your article is published and you need to pay the article processing fees, these are the steps that you need to follow:


  1. Each Invoice should have a Purchase Order Number (PO number), which will be generated if you first get an invoice without PO number from the journal and ask the university to generate PO for it.
  2. Then request the journal to generate another invoice with the PO number.
  3. Make sure that the invoice is addressed to: Utrecht University, Accounting Services, PO Box 80011, 3508 TA Utrecht, Netherlands
  4. Then if you are lucky the Accounts people (after a month or so) will finally let you know that the invoice should not contain VAT (why I don't know!!).
  5. Request another modified invoice from the journal.
  6. Cross you fingers that your article doesn't get removed from the journal till the university decides to pay for it.

OR
  1. Try to pay by your credit card
  2. Get it reimbursed from the university.
