This page exclusively for tips and tricks related LaTeX beamer.

Include packages in latex or beamer:

  • Need root permission. However, see LaTeX - installing local packages
  • Download the package(s) to include.
  • Extract the package(s) to /usr/share/texmf/tex/latex. This is the location where all of your latex packages are present, and the location of this folder may vary depending on linux distribution. For instance, on ubuntu 12.04LTS, this location is /usr/share/texmf-texlive/tex/latex.
  • Run in terminal 'texhash' in the same location. This is an important step to update the index of packages in latex library.

UU slide template:

Utrecht University unofficial theme for latex-beamer. You can download the package from here. Its accompanying manual explains well the usage and options (see 'doc' folder in the package).

Include a movie:

There are several ways you can include a movie in latex-beamer. For example, you can include movie as it is or run an animation within slide. In linux, adobe reader does not support embedded movies. Further, using animate package is useful to include snapshots from cellular potts model and CASH, and it does not require any further processing of pngs you get from these simulations. You can download the package from here. Again, more information is provided in the manual of the package.
Caution: Animate embeds 'pngs' into the pdf. So the resulting pdf size may explode if lot of pngs are included. Note that processing beamer requires considerable amount of time.

Syntax:
\animategraphics[autopause,autoplay,loop,poster=first,width=2.7in]{frames_per_second}{folder_name}{first_png_name}{last_png_name}

Example:
\animategraphics[autopause,autoplay,loop,poster=first,width=2.7in]{100}{../test_movie}{002}{100}
